Exporting from WhatsApp
Does a WhatsApp export include call history?
People often ask whether the call log comes along with a chat export. The short answer is that a standard chat export holds the messages, not the call log, so the PDF will not show your voice or video calls.
What a chat export includes
A WhatsApp chat export is a record of the conversation. It holds the messages with their dates, times and senders. It can also include placeholders or files for photos, videos, audio and documents when you choose Include Media. System lines for changes in a group appear as well, so the record reflects the conversation as it happened.
What it leaves out
- Voice call entries and video call entries from the Calls tab.
- Missed call notices and the time or length of each call.
- The call history you see when you open the Calls tab in the app.
Because calls are not part of the message thread, they do not appear in the text file, and so they do not appear in the PDF either. A message that mentions a call, such as call me later, will still show, since that is ordinary text.
Check the PDF for call references
Once you have converted the chat in ChatIntoPDF, scroll through the preview and look for references to calls in the messages. You will see what people typed about calls, but not the call entries themselves. The preview is free, so you can check this before you pay for the full PDF.
Keep a call record alongside the PDF
- Open the Calls tab in WhatsApp and find the entries you need.
- Take a screenshot of each page that holds the calls you want to keep.
- Save the screenshots into the same folder as your chat export and PDF.
- Name each screenshot by its date, so the call record lines up with the chat.
Screenshots are the practical option for call records. ChatIntoPDF converts the chat export and does not add call logs, so keep the two together in one folder for a complete picture.
Why this matters for a record
If call timing is important, for example for a dispute, an appointment or a work log, do not assume the chat PDF covers it. Keep a separate note of the dates and times of key calls. Then the chat PDF shows what was said and your notes show when the calls happened.
ChatIntoPDF is an independent tool and is not affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta.
Frequently asked questions
Will missed calls show in my PDF?
Not as call entries. Only messages and what they say appear, so a missed call shows only if someone wrote about it.
Can ChatIntoPDF add call logs to the PDF?
No. It converts the chat export, so call records need to be kept separately, for example as screenshots.
Is there a way to export call history?
A chat export does not include calls, so screenshots of the Calls tab are the practical way to keep a record.
Does the chat PDF show call duration?
No. Durations belong to the call log, which is not part of the chat export.
