Fixing problems
Why WhatsApp Dates Look Wrong: DD/MM vs MM/DD
A date like 03/04/2024 can mean 3 April or 4 March, depending on where the phone is set. The export follows your phone settings, so the format you see is the format it was written in.
Why the same date can read two ways
WhatsApp writes each message with a timestamp, and the layout of that timestamp follows the region and language settings on the phone. Some regions write the day first, so 3 April 2024 appears as 03/04/2024. Others write the month first, so the same day appears as 04/03/2024 in the same order of numbers but with the meaning reversed. Neither is wrong. The problem appears when a reader expects a different order from the one the file uses.
Time follows a similar split. Some phones show 24-hour times such as 18:45, while others show 12-hour times with AM and PM. Years can be written with two digits or four.
How to tell which order the file uses
The quickest check is to find a date where the first number is greater than 12. Dates such as 25/06/2024 or 17/11/2023 can only be day first, because there is no twelfth or higher month. If you find a line like that, the whole file uses day-month order. If you find a first number greater than 12 in the second position, such as 06/25/2024, the file uses month-day order instead.
- Open the exported .txt in a plain text editor.
- Search for a date whose first number is above 12, such as a line beginning 25/ or 17/.
- If the first number is the day, the file is day-month. If it is the month, the file is month-day.
- Read the rest of the chat using that order.
Mixed formats in one chat
A chat that spans a change of phone language or region setting can contain more than one layout. The earlier messages may use one order and the later ones another. This is not a conversion bug. It reflects the settings at the time each message was written. Use the check above on a few dates from different parts of the chat to see whether the format changed.
What the converter does with dates
ChatIntoPDF recognises more than fourteen timestamp formats, including day-first and month-first layouts, 12-hour and 24-hour times, and dates with dots, slashes or dashes. The date shown in the PDF comes from the export, so it matches what WhatsApp wrote. The converter lays the messages out in the order they appear in the file, and the free preview lets you check a few dates before you pay.
The converter cannot know which order you meant when the export itself is ambiguous. For example, 03/04/2024 on its own does not reveal whether it is day-first or month-first. Use the check above with the rest of the chat to settle it.
Fixing the source if you need to
If the format is consistently wrong for how you read it, the cleanest fix is to change the region or language setting on the phone and export again, so the new export uses the layout you expect. Make sure to restore the setting afterwards. You can also leave the export as it is and simply read it with the order that the file uses.
- Look for a date whose first number is above 12 to find the order.
- Check dates from different parts of the chat for mixed formats.
- Export again after changing the phone region if you want a different layout.
- Use the free preview to confirm dates before paying.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if 03/04/2024 means 3 April or 4 March?
Look elsewhere in the export for a date whose first number is above 12. That reveals whether the file is day-first or month-first, and you can apply the same order to every date.
Why does the chat show two different date layouts?
The phone region or language likely changed during the chat, so the export recorded different layouts at different times.
Does ChatIntoPDF change my dates?
The converter shows the dates as they appear in the export. It does not rewrite them, so the PDF matches the source file.
Do I need an account to check the dates?
No. You can upload the export, use the free preview and check the dates without signing up.
